CALL OUT FOR PARTICIPATION – closing Friday 30 June 2017
This year we celebrate the 11th Moon Lantern Festival on Sunday 1 October from 5pm as part of Adelaide Festival Centre’s OzAsia Festival.
Taking place in Elder Park on the banks of the River Torrens, the Moon Lantern Festival is a modern celebration based on the ancient Chinese mid-autumn harvest festival. It is regarded as one of the most significant cultural and family events in the South Australian events and festivals calendar. The festival attracts more than 20,000 spectators from Adelaide and further afield to experience Australia’s largest lantern parade.
Due to the redevelopment of Adelaide Riverbank and construction at the Adelaide Festival Centre reducing the capacity of Elder Park, the 2017 Moon Lantern Festival has been re-visioned. This year, spectators can expect a more focused event experience featuring select food trucks and roving and pop-up performances with the well-loved lantern parade as its centrepiece.
Key to our success of the Moon Lantern Festival is the participation of our local Asian communities. Our community’s contribution will help us make the event a great occasion where all South Australians can come together to share in the celebration of new and old arts and cultural traditions from Asia and our local communities.
There are many ways to participate and we are looking for communities to take part in a range of Moon Lantern Festival activities. We are also seeking community groups to perform at our Outdoor Hub across the OzAsia Festival (21 September–8 October).
